CHINA: CENTER FOR EMERGING ARTISTS

Much has been written about China's emergence as a world power. It is now seen as an economic giant, a rising star in many fields of study both in architecture/ arts and business. This "new" discovery negates the fact that for centuries China was a world center for culture and arts, and was the birth place for porcelain. The 21st century will surely see China's rebirth.

In the world of arts, particularly in clay art, China is undergoing a radical transformation. The changes will undoubtedly witness an unparalleled rise in the creation of sudio potters. China is not new to this art/craft but it has often been practiced by anonymous potters and until only recently has the art form gained national and international momentum.

The Western concept of "studio arts" is beginning to take hold and along with the triving art scene in Beijing, cities known for a specific types of arts are asserting themselves.

To this end the program for this studio is to design a new ceramics institute for visiting scholars/masters of ceramic arts in Tangshan, China.
